What is the difference between the Arizona gunman and the sleeper cell Islamist terrorist hiding out in the United States today? The gunman was not a fit and productive member of our society, and neither are the Islamist terrorists. That is not where we should look for the differences.
While the death and havoc caused by a single individual in Arizona was a terrorist act, it could have been prevented by means other than gun control. In fact, if he did not have a gun, he would have found another means to achieve his end. Maybe only one person would have been targeted and injured or killed, but his end would have been carried out any way.
So then let us focus on root cause and provide a solution to our society that gives relief earlier in the sequence of events. How would any of the concerned citizens that “knew” there was a problem have been able to voice these concerns? Who could have removed this man from society and provided correction to his state of mind, and provided protection to our citizens?
If you take the Arizona tragedy and multiply that by 100 you will begin to understand the potential impact of an Islamist backed sleeper cell here in the United States that is given permission to unleash jihad against our citizens. That is the great difference to which I pointed earlier. I only hope that there are citizens carrying weapons when that happens, and they are prepared to counter the anti-American terrorists in their plot.
How about resolving the real root cause issue? I have to think that this may be one of those crises that cannot be allowed to pass without taking advantage of its impact on our society because this gun control proposal would never be achieved without it.
So the question that remains is this: Where do we focus our attention? Gun control is targeted at law abiding productive citizens. Not single minded individuals bent on personal vengeance and not on sleeper cell Islamists planning and preparing to wreak havoc on American soil.
